Heritage Sacred Sites Updates

On May 24, 1996, President Clinton issued Executive Order 13007, Indian Sacred Sites, instructing federal agencies to: “1) accommodate access to and ceremonial use of Indian sacred sites by Indian religious practitioners and 2) avoid adversely affecting the physical integrity of such sacred sites". Specific language needed to be incorporated into the Forest Plan that addressed the additional protections afforded by the executive order. This was accomplished by adding new forest-wide standards and guidelines associated with Sacred Site protection activities in Chapter 4 of the 2008 amended Forest Plan.

Work Product(s): The product for this work item was appropriate edits to the 1997 Forest Plan.
