Fleas are the most common external parasites on cats. They are wingless insects that feed on blood and move from one animal to the other by jumping. Your cat scratching often and persistently can be an indication of a flea infestation. Black spots on your cat shows presence of fleas, they are called flea dirt, it is blood excreted by fleas.
