The Forest Service has received a number of requests for additional information since publication of the Draft EIS. In order to ensure that all parties have access to the information we have provided in response to these requests, we have established a new Information Requests page on our web site. Our responses to additional information requests are posted on this new page.

An interagency process aimed at refining the boundaries of old-growth reserves (OGRs) on the Tongass has been underway for the past year. Four of the alternatives in the Draft EIS (Alternatives 1, 2, 3, and 6) incorporated some of the initial OGR boundary changes identified through this interagency process. The process has continued since publication of the Draft EIS and is almost complete. A complete set of boundary refinements has been identified and is available for review on the Updated Old-Growth Reserve Mapping Proposal page that has been added to this web site. The updated OGR proposal will be incorporated into Alternatives 1, 2, 3, and 6 in the Final EIS. We would like your comments on these proposed boundary changes. Feel free to provide comments informally here or formally using the Make Comment page for the Draft EIS. We’d appreciate your feedback by April 12, 2007.

We have developed a series of public information posters that summarize key aspects of the Tongass Forest Plan and Draft EIS and together provide a useful overview of the project. These posters will be displayed at the public meetings that are scheduled during the Draft EIS comment period. They are also available for review in the Newsroom area of this web site.

The Forest Service is the primary author and responsible for establishing the initial topics for discussion on this blog. We will, however, be happy to work with you to “co-author” an initial posting if there is something else you would like to discuss in this forum. Email us at admin email if you would like to explore this option.

This blog is part of a larger effort by the Tongass to improve communication during our Forest Plan Amendment process. While we have several ways for you to communicate with us (check out our public involvement page) this site provides the best opportunity for people to interact and discuss Tongass planning issues.

Hopefully we won’t have too many start-up bugs.
So check out the rules, register and join in!
